Major Projects

Projects Proposed Under Privatisation
The projects taken through Private Sector Participation generally fall in the following categories :
  • Construction of new roads.

  • Improvements to existing roads.

  • Bypasses through towns.

  • Construction of flyovers, bridges, ROB’s & tunnels.

  • Construction of expressway.

  • Widening & repairing of bridges.

  • Development of Govt. plots through privatisation

  • While selecting the projects, priority is being given to the works included in road development plan and efforts are being made to maintain regional balance.

State Road Projects undertaken through PWD & MSRDC
In all 169 projects with an estimated cost of Rs.21177 crores have been taken up. Out of these 90 projects amounting to Rs.3862 crores have been completed. 26 projects costing Rs.3613 crores are in progress. In addition to these, 53 projects amounting to Rs.13701 crores are at different stages of planning.

In the above programme, 1367 km road improvement, 97 bridges, 38 flyovers, 33 ROBs, and 95 km six lane expressway are completed and works of 1773 km road improvement, 20 major bridges/flyovers and improvement to 700 km Mumbai-Nagpur road are in progress and about 648 km 4 laining works are approved.

Improvements of Major National Highway Links
The GOI has taken up an ambitious programme of 4 laning of N.H.ways forming the Golden Quadrilateral and North South Connectivity. In addition to this Mumbai – Nashik - Dhule State Border, Nagpur - Talegaon with length of 463 km. is being taken up for 4 laning under N.H.D.P. - 3A by the NHAI. In addition to above the following works have been completed under BOT.

Four laning of Pune Solapur NH-9 between Pune & Yawat (26kms.) Rs.88.74 cr

2.

Four laning of Pune Nasik NH-50,between Pune & Rajguru Nagar
(30 kms)

Rs.127.60 cr

3.

Construction of Bridge across river Pingalai on Nagpur Edalabad Road NH-6

Rs.14.15 cr

Improvements to National Highway roads leading to JNPT
In the port connectivity program Ministry of Shipping, Roads Transport & Highways, New Delhi has recently planned to develop following roads leading to J.N.P.T.

1.

Khopata bridge and road connecting NH-(17 kms) Rs.32.00 cr

2.

Second link to JNPT (10.5 kms)

Rs.140.00 cr

3.

A link joining NH-4 and NH-8 bypassing Thane and Mumbra
(32 kms)
Rs.75.00 cr

Maharashtra Golden Triangle
Acceleration of Maharashtra’s economic development is being planned through clusterisation. First of such cluster will be a triangle formed by Mumbai-Nasik-Pune and it is named as Golden Triangle. This will facilitate rejuvenation of existing industries inthe entire triangle, service corridor of I.T., Biotech, healthcare and several agriculture economic zones in Pune & Nashik.

In this triangle four laning of three National Highways viz. Mumbai-Nasik NH-3, Nasik-Pune NH-50 & Pune Mumbai NH-4 is a prime requirement. Pune Mumbai NH-4 is already developed to 4 lane in major stretches apart from six lane Mumbai Pune expressway. Mumbai Nasik NH-3 four laning is included in NHDP-III by M.O.R.T. & H. Efforts are being made to cover Nasik Pune NH-50 under NHDP-III.

Mumbai - Trans Harbour Link Project (Sewri - Nhava)
The Govt. of Maharashtra has proposed a six lane 22.5 km Sea Link connecting Mumbai to the main land having project cost about Rs.4000 crores with a view to reduce the congestion on the island city by providing impetus to development on mainland. Environmental Clearance received from MoEF for this project in March 2005.

The Techno – Economic Feasibility and Environmental Impact Assessment studies have already been completed.

Bids for Pre-qualification of BOT operators are received and are under scrutiny.

Bandra Worli Sea Link Project
Bandra Worli Sea Link Project starts from Mahim Junction and connect Worli near Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road. Total length of link is 6.0 km and 8 lane wide comprising of approach bridge and cable stayed bridge. The cost of project is Rs. 1306 crores. The work is in progress and is expected to be completed by April 2008. Fill Date 50 % work is completed.


Worli Nariman point Sea Link Project
The Government has decided to take up the work of Worli Nariman point Sea Link Project of length 18 km. costing Rs.5535 crores through M.S.R.D.C., Techno Economic Feasibility study of the project is in progress.
