A vast geography endowed with diverse topography has made India the
repository of abundant resources which provides a base for world scale
manufacturing investment.
With an area of 3.3 million square kilometres, India is the seventh
largest country in the world, and the second largest in Asia.
India’s reserves of coal, iron ore, manganese,
bauxite and chromium are among the largest in the world. Large quantities of
mica, titanium ore, chromite, natural gas and limestone are also to be found in
India.
With the largest area of arable land in the
world, India is one of the world’s largest food
producers - over 200 million tonnes of foodgrains are produced annually.
India is the world’s largest producer of milk, sugarcane and tea and the
second largest producer of rice, fruit and vegetables.
Though an importer of petroleum and natural gas, India has abundant coal
reserves and a large untapped hydroelectric power
potential of an estimated 150,000 MW.
